Area Stars Make College Choices

As first reported by the Murray Ledger and Times' Tommy Dillard, Murray State head football coach Chris Hatcher snagged three of western Kentucky's finest gridiron stars as part of his first recruiting class.  Calloway County's Grant Williams (OL), Heath's Tra Tharp (WR/DB), and Murray's Brandon Wicks (SS) signed with the Racers on Wednesday, and that talented trio was also joined by Henry County's Martez Teague (LB) and Fred (Trey) Tharpe III (WR).  You can read more about Coach Hatcher's debut class here at GoRacers.com.

Steve Duncan's fabulous Murray High squad will also send more of its standouts on to Campbellsville University, where they will play for former Paducah Tilghman coach Perry ThomasJordan Benton (K), Demoree Fields (SS), and Jarvae Langford (DB) will remain Tigers as they join a program that Thomas has moving in the right direction.  Per reports from Tommy Dillard, Murray offensive lineman Lonnie Martin is considering Campbellsville as well, along with Indiana programs Hanover and Franklin.  Graves County's Rex Coleman (P), a two-time First Team All-State selection, will take his considerable punting talents to Campbellsville as well, and Trigg County's Josh Adams (DB) provides Thomas with a very strong western Kentucky contingent.

Two more members of Joe Gaddis' ultra-successful program at Henry County made their college selections on Wednesday.  Lennies McFerren III (RB/LB) is the grandson of southeast Missouri high school basketball legened Lennies McFerren, Sr., and he chose to return to his family roots by selecting Southeast Missouri as his collegiate home.  Henry County's outstanding QB/S Shonte Sims decided to join new Memphis coach Larry Porter with the Tigers, and it is assumed that the hard-hitting safety will play that position at the next level.

Dillard was also the first to report that Calloway County's Shauna Wicker would join the soccer program at Murray State University.  Wicker is a two-time All-First Region selection, and she finished her career with 20 goals and seven assists as a senior.  You can read more about Shauna's signing at GoRacers.com.

Froggyland Sports salutes all of the fabulous talents that have earned the opportunity to continue their careers at the next level, and we hope that all of our coaches and fans will let us know about any and all of the signings of our area athletes.  If you have information on a college signing for one of Froggyland's finest, feel free to email us here.
