Froggyland Sports is pleased to announce that many of the area's best sportwriters from some of the area's finest newspapers will be contributing to the Froggyland Sports Network as we continue our work to provide enhanced coverage of our very special athletic programs in this region. As Froggyland Sports begins its first significant foray into northwest Tennessee football, we are thrilled to be able to turn to a pair of talented gentlemen from the Union City Messenger. Sports editor Mike Hutchens and reporter Kenneth Coker do a fabulous job covering all things sports in their part of the world, and the contribute mightily to the Messenger's outstanding web presence, NW TN Today. Please visit the newspaper's site, and if you have the chance, give Mike and Kenneth a shout and let them know how much you appreciate their efforts to shine a light on the best in prep sports in the Froggyland area. You'll find short bios on both below. Mike Hutchens will begin his 28th year of covering West Tennessee prep and college athletics this fall as the sports editor of The Messenger in Union City. Hutchens has twice served terms as the president of the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and is a two-time Writer of the Year as recognized by the TSWA. Under his leadership, The Messenger sports department has won more than 175 writing/design/photography awards in various competitions, with the paper’s annual preseason football section judged as the best in Tennessee in its division by either the TSWA or Tennessee Press Association in 11 of the past 13 years. Kenneth Coker begins his fourth season of covering prep sports at The Messenger this fall and has nearly a decade’s worth of experience in all in the newspaper business. He previously spent a tenure at The Messenger’s sister publication, The Weakley County Press in Martin. In addition to his writing and photography responsibilities at The Messenger, Coker also is in charge of daily pagination of the paper’s sports section and special editions and is a two-time winner of “Best Headline” competitions as judged by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.
